Harrogate Indecent exposure suspect EFIT released

5 January 2011

Following a number of reported incidents of indecent exposure in Harrogate, North Yorkshire Police have issued an EFIT image of a man they would like to trace.

The image is a likeness of a man who exposed himself to two women in the Stray Rein area on Saturday 18 December 2010.

The women were walking along a public footpath which links York Place with Tewit Well Road at around 5.45pm, when they noticed a man standing next to a tree, just past the railway footbridge. He was naked with his jeans round his ankles and appeared to be exposing himself.

The man is described as white, aged in his early to mid 20s, around 6ft 3in tall with a larger than average build and dark brown hair in a pudding-bowl shape. He had a round face with a pale complexion, dark eyes and a hairless upper body.

Officers are also investigating two further incidents in the Stray Rein area of Harrogate and believe that the same man may be linked as the descriptions provided by the victims offer a number of similarities.

At around 8.10pm on Sunday 5 December 2010, a 34-year-old local woman was walking in the Stray Rein area when she was approached by a naked man, wearing only a pair of white trainers.

The woman noticed the man’s clothes in a pile on the ground. She made her way home before contacting police.

The offender was described as around 6ft 4in tall, with a medium build and blond hair.

A further incident was reported on Friday 31 December 2010 after a 17-year-old local woman was approached by a man near the railway bridge on the Stray at around 5.15pm.

He was carrying some clothes under his arm and as the victim passed him he dropped his trousers, indecently exposing himself.

The suspect is described as approximately 6ft tall, aged around 40-years-old with a large build and dark hair and was possibly wearing a hat.

PC Lynsey Ridout, of Harrogate Police, said: “Although nobody has been hurt during these incidents, it is obviously an unnerving and unpleasant experience for the victims involved.

“To their credit they have managed to provide some very good accounts of the suspect in each of their cases and I am hoping that someone may recognise the man from the descriptions.

“Anyone who knows who he is or has any information that could help the investigation, please contact the police or Crimestoppers.

“I would also urge anyone who has been approached in similar circumstances to come forward.”

Anyone with information that could help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact PC Lynsey Ridout, of Harrogate Police, on 0845 60 60 24 7.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
