Purcell’s The Fairy Queen recreates the enchanted world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Thomas Guthrie’s production, influenced by the English surreal painter Richard Dadd, imagines the story set in a military convalescent hospital during World War One. This joyous production beautifully conveys the fantasy and inextinguishable energy of Purcell’s magical score.
