Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the A65 Settle bypass.
At approximately 9.50am today (Friday June 17 2011) a group of three cyclists were travelling northbound along the A65 towards Cumbria, when a cyclist at the rear of the group was involved in a collision with a red Volkswagen Golf, heading in the same direction.
The cyclist, a 51-year-old man from Bristol, was seriously injured in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene before being taken to Airedale General Hospital.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with information.
Traffic Sergeant Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “I am urging anyone who has any information about this collision to contact the police as soon as they can.
“I am particularly interested in speaking to anyone who witnessed the collision itself or saw either the Volkswagen Golf or the group of cyclists prior to the incident.”
