MP comments, but Nightingale Hospital at Harrogate Convention Centre not confirmed

31 March 2020

Although it is being reported that the Harrogate Convention Centre will be used as a Nightingale Hospital to fight Coronavirus, it hasn’t been formally confirmed by the Government that it will be.

Andrew Jones MP said:

The fight against the coronavirus outbreak is a national endeavour and I am proud that Harrogate is playing its full part in that fight.

The Convention Centre provides versatile space in a well connected location that has proved itself over decades. It has been successfully used for high profile, high security sensitive functions, and I believe these factors will have been important in the government and NHS deciding we should host a Nightingale Hospital.

This is the biggest crisis to face out nation since the second world war.  The biggest thing we can all do to help is to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives. In our area it is great that we have gone further and are playing an important role in the wider national effort.

  1. A shout out for St John Ambulance who have been preparing to deploy volunteers to these hospitals. They’re already in the London hospital.

  2. Would it be possible to set up a canteen facility for the workforce building it? I know someone who’s been called up to construct the hospital bays and I know he’s been asked to work 12 hour shifts for the next 2 weeks. We need to show our appreciation for the tradespeople who will be grafting hard to accommodate the patients wellbeing.

  3. I’ve just walked past, there is a lot of activity, BT checking phone/ computer lines, Yorkshire Water checking water supplies and sewers. NHS vehicles and large wagons making delivery!

  4. Somebody had best tell the workers there if this is NOT official from the Government because it looks like a big concrete block in front of the Royal Hall is been constructed

  5. Are there volunteers sewing scrubs for the Nightingale and Harrogate general hospital? Have a group who would be interested in doing this…..please contact me!

    • Hi Maggie
I would be happy to make some scrubs to help if required. I’m not saying I can make hundreds of sets but I’m certainly happy to do what I can.
I have sewn for years and although I have mainly made curtains I can turn my hand to most things.
I look forward to hearing from you.
      Kind regards
      Sally

    • Hi Maggie
I’m not much good at sewing but could easily use pattern & cut out pieces ready to pass on to sewer. Would that help?
