Harrogate-based community furniture store, Essential Needs, is set to expand its services with a new partnership which will see the charity offer a range of brand-new beds, as well as extend its opening hours to include one Saturday a month from 6 April 2019.
The self-funded charity, which has helped families across the district for more than 20 years, providing quality used furniture, electrical appliances and household items, has seen demand for its services soar in recent months and is rolling out the new services in response.
Popular with upcyclers and lovers of second-hand furniture, the charity also has more than a thousand registered customers across the Harrogate area on low incomes or means tested benefits, who can get household items at 25% less than the listed prices. From April, those services will extend to include brand new single beds from £99 and doubles from only £139.
Lee Wright, who took over as General Manager of Essential Needs in January, said:
Essential Needs has been serving the local community since 1995 and has, for a long time, been a hidden gem for lovers of second-hand furniture and a lifeline for many low-income families.
With the introduction of Universal Credits, we’ve seen a huge increase in customers registering with us for support. Listening to what customers are asking for, we’re delighted to be able to offer new beds at an accessible price, alongside second-hand beds, which can start at as little as £30.
We’re hugely grateful to the community for continuing to donate used household items and to the army of volunteers who support us, ensuring we’re open at least five days a week. With their support it means, from 6th April, we’re now able to trial extending our opening hours to include one Saturday a month.
Essential Needs is located behind Leeds Road shops at Back Gladstone Street, Harrogate, HG2 8DF and contactable on 01423 870040
