Harrogate hairdresser has the ‘X Factor after working on hit TV show

14 November 2018

Award-winning Harrogate hairdresser Joseph Ferraro has been styling the stars after being called up to work on ITV’s X-Factor.

The former North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year spent the weekend in London cutting, colouring and styling the contestants’ hair for the first live final of the current hit TV series.

Joseph, who has two salons in Harrogate, also got the chance to meet some of the presenters of the long-running show – including this season’s newest judge Robbie Williams.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Joseph moved to Harrogate 15 years ago and set up his hairdressing business in the town centre. His two Joseph Ferraro Hair salons are now based in Leeds Road and Cheltenham Crescent, Harrogate.

It is the first time Joseph has worked on X-Factor, although him and his team are regular stylists at London Fashion Week, and he has worked with super-stylist Gok Wan in the past.

Joseph:

I really had a great time working on X-Factor, it was very long days and long hours, but so enjoyable seeing how the show is put together and meeting all the contestants involved in the first live final.

X-Factor is one of the biggest shows on TV with millions of viewers worldwide so it was a real honour to be asked to be part of the hair and make-up team, and a great experience.

Working with head stylist Adam Reed, from top UK salon Percy and Reed, Joseph was part of a small team of hairdressers who were called in to style all the contestants’ and dancers’ hair – he was able to use his skills and creativity to produce a wide range of looks for the contestants, while following a ‘grunge’ theme for the show’s dancers.

One of his weekend’s highlights was when he met new judge and ex Take That singer Robbie Williams, who appears on the show as a judge alongside his wife Ayda Field.

Joseph said:

I introduced myself and he was very friendly – he was interested in the work we were doing with the contestants in hair and make-up.

Joseph and his team at Joseph Ferraro Hair have won a string of hairdressing awards over the years, including North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year, Wella Trend Vision and have been involved in many of the top hairdressing industry events across the UK and abroad.

Later this month, they are heading to London’s Grosvenor Hotel to discover if Joseph has won the title of North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year for the second time. A seven-time finalist, Joseph won the title in 2016 and is hoping to regain it again this year.
