Students at Rossett School were immersed in all things continental during a recent European Day of Languages.
Year 7 children were treated to a range of culinary delights from all over Europe, rustled up by the school’s Executive Chef. They sampled delicious delicacies such as smoked salmon and caviar from Norway and pasteis de nata from Portugal, as well as trying out a variety of dishes at a special tapas bar.
Culinary specialities from European countries were also on offer in the dining halls at lunch time to give all pupils a chance to sample some continental flavours. They also learnt about different food around the world during PSHE lessons.
Year 8 students, meanwhile, attended an assembly about the importance of languages for future careers. Their PSHE lessons were all based around the European languages theme and focused on the value of knowing different languages for future success.
The European theme even continued into PE lessons, with students trying out a variety of sports which are popular on the continent, including handball and petanque.
Bev Bowman, head of the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department, said:
The day was a huge success and really brought alive the culture of other European countries. Learning a language is about so much more than just being able to construct a sentence: it gives you access to a whole new culture and can set you off on a fascinating and rewarding journey of discovery, career choices and friendships.
