The Nidderdale AONB office and Visit Harrogate have joined forces to find the best and most innovative pictures of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in their new myNidderdale photography competition.
The competition is open to people of all ages to make the most of the fantastic photo opportunities that can be found at every turn in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
As well as a prize bank including vouchers for a How Stean Gorge Big Five day, Nidderdale Llamas, a Fountains Abbey family pass and cash prizes, the finalists’ photos will feature in a special exhibition to be held in the Royal Pump Room Museum in Harrogate.
Following technical difficulties (now resolved) with the online submission the organisers have extended the deadline to ensure everyone who would like to enter has the opportunity.
The Nidderdale AONB is an area of 233 square miles located on the eastern flanks of the Yorkshire Pennines and stretches from the high moorland of Great Whernside all the way to Fountains Abbey and Wharfedale east towards the edge of the Vale of York.
It is home to iconic sights and attractions, including Brimham Rocks, Fountain’s Abbey, Coldstones Cut and How Stean Gorge. The area also features some of Yorkshire’s most famous views from Middlesmoor or Guisecliffe and magnificent reservoirs such as Thruscross and Gouthwaite.
AONB Manager, Sarah Kettlewell, said:
We boast one of the UK’s most beautiful and protected landscapes, alongside species and habitats that are internationally important. My Nidderdale is a chance for people who live and visit the area to really show it off in all its glory.
The Nidderdale AONB team works to put people at the heart of the landscape to help conserve its special qualities.
Sarah added:
We really want to see what people feel makes Nidderdale AONB a special place to live, work and visit.
Richard Spencer, CEO of Visit Harrogate, said:
This photo competition offers a chance to really show off why our district is so proud to be home to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We’re looking for pictures that show how visitors and residents experience the AONB; I can’t wait to see the variety of people and landscape is represented in the entries.
Entry is free and up to five photos are allowed to be submitted per person. The public will also be invited to vote on a ‘People’s Choice’ winner from shortlisted entries.
Deadline for entries is 14 September, 2018. Go to visitharrogate.co.uk/photocomp for full details and how to enter.
