The latest in robotic milking can be seen in action for the first time in the UK at the Great Yorkshire Show in July.
The Lely Astronaut A5 marks a new milestone in robotic milking, with cow comfort at the heart of its design, and will be unveiled in the live milking parlour at the show which runs Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 July.
Development of new machine follows an extensive worldwide test programme by Lely, with more than two million milkings.
Lely first demonstrated live milking at the show in 2016, with a purpose-built dairy unit constructed close to the cattle lines. This has proved a popular attraction not only for dairy farmers but for anyone who wants to understand more about the dairy industry.
The Astronaut A5 features a new hybrid arm developed to be silent and more accurate, resulting in more comfortable cows and consistent milking. It follows the cow’s movement during milking and corrects itself in the case of any unexpected movement.
The Astronaut A5 has also been designed to achieve a significantly lower total cost per kg of milk produced, through more efficient milking, lower consumption of detergent and water and energy use reduced by up to 20 per cent.
