City and Holbeck CID are appealing for witnesses and information following an aggravated burglary at a house in Town Street, Gildersome on Wednesday 18 May 2011.
A woman was hanging washing on a line in the back garden of her home when two masked men jumped over the rear fence at around 7.45am and threatened her with a knife while demanding money.
The men followed the woman into the house and made threats towards her teenage daughter, before searching a number of rooms before leaving over the rear fence. They are then believed to have run into a nearby alleyway.
The woman and her daughter were left shaken by the incident but were unharmed.
Enquiries into the incident are being led by City and Holbeck CID, and at this stage it has been established that a box containing a quantity of cash was stolen from within the house. The box has since been recovered nearby.
Officers from the Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are conducting patrols in the area, and detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.
Acting Detective Inspector Grant Stead said: “The local area was quite busy at the time and there was a large number of people around because of the school run, so it’s very possible that someone may have seen the incident or seen the two men running to or from the house.
“This was a very serious incident and while we are working to establish the full circumstances I would appeal for anyone who has information or witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact officers immediately.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact City and Holbeck CID via 0845 6060606.
