North Yorkshire County Council is holding a “get into teaching” information event as part of a campaign to improve teacher recruitment.
The event, which is aimed at people thinking of a future career in teaching, will provide information about the different routes to train to teach at both primary and secondary level, entry requirements and method of application.
Providing every child in North Yorkshire the best possible start is a top priority for the county council, and recruiting and retaining the highest quality teachers is a crucial part of achieving that ambition.
The county council say they are committed to supporting schools by equipping them to recruit the talent of the future, and this includes making sure anyone considering a career in teaching has all the information and advice they need to help them make their decision.
For this reason the North Yorkshire’s Secondary School Improvement Partnership, which represents schools across the county, is working alongside the county council to run its Inspire, Lead, Teach teacher recruitment campaign to ensure the county’s secondary schools can recruit and retain teachers effectively and efficiently.
Organisations at the get into teaching event, which takes place on Wednesday 11 October 2017, 3.30pm – 6.30pm, represent the different training routes including university led, School Direct and Teach First.
The county council’s Adult Learning and Skills Service will also be on hand to answer questions about training for Teaching Assistants.
The county council has also created a website ‘Inspire, Lead, Teach’ – www.inspireleadteach.co.uk to attract teachers into the county.
County Councillor Patrick Mulligan, Executive Member for Schools, said:
Teachers in North Yorkshire get great support through professional development, partnership working and sharing good practice. North Yorkshire is a great place to come to be a teacher.
A very high proportion (88%) of our secondary age pupils continue to attend a good or outstanding school, 7% above the national average. We have the highest expectations of our children and young people and what they can achieve. This essentially comes down to inspirational teaching and fantastic support for our teachers. We want to make sure that great teachers continue to train and work with us.
