Harrogate Railway Ladies played host to Altofts Ladies today (24 September 2017) in their first league match and after a two week break due to cancelations railway had certainly lost the spark that got them through the county cup game losing 0-2.
Railway had great first 20 minutes with Emma Lansdall just going wide after two minutes and Nicola Hadley being thwarted by Altofts Keeper on the 14th minute, Altofts gained the upper hand after they broke through the middle and the striker was one on one with Charllote (Rocky) Donnelly, Rails Keeper, she got around Rocky to score on the 24th minute,0-1. Railway responded quite well but never got close to scoring before the half time whistle.
After half time Altofts pressed hard and Railway found themselves on the back foot for most of the second half, with some great defending from Leanne Court, Railway managed to keep the pressing Altofts at bay until the 73rd minute when another ball through from the middle put the striker one on one again this time lifting the ball over Rocky as she committed to her save, 0-2.
Railway were trying to salvage something from the game but, compared to the last match played they never looked dangerous in the last third and made it a bit too easy for the opposition to break through the middle. A disappointing performance but one where a lot can be learned from.
Next week they are away against Doncaster Belles in the league.
