Brackenfield School held their inaugural Under 11’s Rugby Festival at Knaresborough Rugby Club on Wednesday 1st March. Eight schools played in the festival; Brackenfield A and B, Richmond House, Belmont Grosvenor, Froebelian, Lady Lane Park, Highfield, and Terrington Hall.
The focus of the festival was rugby skill development through the matches played and also coaching by Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby Club. It was a wonderful afternoon of rugby enjoyed by over a hundred children. The teams played each other in 15 minute matches and benefited from coaching between matches.
Head of Games at Brackenfield, Mr Olesqui was delighted with the success of the event: It was fabulous to welcome so many schools to our first rugby festival. I was really pleased that they participated in the true spirit of the afternoon, learning and developing their rugby skills. I would like to especially thank Yorkshire Carnegie Rugby Club for their valued contribution in coaching during the afternoon. Knaresborough Rugby Club were the perfect hosts providing an ideal venue and I would like to thank them for making us all feel so welcome
Headteacher, Mrs. Sowa praised everyone involved: We couldn’t have hoped for a better inaugural rugby festival. I would like to thank Mr. Olesqui for organising the event, the schools for participating and everyone else involved. Knaresborough Rugby Club were so friendly and provided the ideal venue.
To complete the festival, the referees and coaches nominated players to receive awards for their outstanding play and effort. As a very special surprise, all the players were given tickets to the following premiership rugby match, Yorkshire Carnegie v London Irish, that rounded off an excellent afternoon.
