The Acorn Committee which raises funds for people with dementia and their carers presented the Dementia Forward charity with a brand new minibus entirely funded from the proceeds of the tenth Acorn Charity Bike Ride which took place in May 2016.
Dementia Forward, which will shortly be opening the doors to its new base in Burton Leonard, will be using the minibus to support people with dementia who live in more isolated and rural areas and to enable access to activities for the hundreds of families living locally with dementia.
Louise Hanen of Acorn said: We are so proud to announce that from the proceeds from last year’s Acorn Bike Ride we have been able to purchase a much-needed minibus for Dementia Forward. This will be invaluable in supporting families and their carers to access the wonderful services that they offer. It’s an example of great team work, so huge thanks to all our cyclists, helpers and sponsors.
The artwork and design for the minibus was done by Imogen Johnston and Rob Kitchingman of Ark Sign and Digital for wrapped the design onto the minibus.
Jill Quinn of Dementia Forward said: Dementia Forward are excited to be able to put the new minibus to good use. We are indebted to Acorn for all the support they have given us as a charity to enable us to support the hundreds of families, living locally, with dementia.
The wonderful graphics on the minibus really capture the aims of Acorn and Dementia Forward – we are endeavouring to support people to live well with dementia in their own communities and we hope that the messages we send out are positive. In particular, the people we support with Young Onset dementia are able to go out for a day of meaningful activity, whilst at the same time freeing up time for the family carer.
The fundraising that Acorn have done over many years is quite amazing and we will make sure that their hard work is rewarded by making the very best of this wonderful resource.”
