Railway Ladies travelled to Sheffield Wednesday looking to continue their recent form.
Conditions of gale force winds took their toll on the Railway girls from the off as they struggled to get out of their own half.
On 10 minutes a long clearance put through Sandra Clarke through one on one with the keeper, but her finish was straight at the Sheffield keeper. Railway were generally slow to react at times and on 25 minutes Sheffield made them pay with a neat passing move, resulting in the Sheffield striker smashing in from 10 yards.
A change of formation resulted in Railway starting to get a hold of the game with Jodi Hodgson starting to pull the strings. On 35 mins A classy move involving 4 Railway players created another one on one with Nic Hadley but after rounding the keeper the ball just kept running away.
Sheffield always looked dangerous & straight after Railways opportunity caught Rail on the break & managed to tap in from 5 yards ending another great attack. The second half was much better from Railway, who managed to get into threatening positions in the last third but time after time just made the wrong choice.
Player of the match Jenny Hudleston was as ever a rock at the back with her partnership with Leanne Court becoming better week on week. With 10 minutes remaining Rail piled on the pressure with more chances falling to Emma Landsall, Lou Donnelly & Nic Hadley but none were able to take advantage. Sheffield were smart & again caught Rail on the break with 1 minute remaining, 3-0 Sheffield.
The scoreline flattered Sheffield with Railway showing at times just how they are getting stronger in their quest for survival. Small margins in the game & Railway look forward to their next test away to Courts City a week of Sunday, a real 6 pointer!
