Three Harrogate Grammar School students selected by England Hockey

17 October 2016

Three students from Harrogate Grammar School have been selected by England Hockey to represent the North of England. The students, Thomas Nash (Yr10), Alfie Weaver (Yr9) and Charlie Willis (Yr11), were chosen after being invited to attend trials at the Leeds Junior Hockey Performance Centre and were picked out by independent selectors from England Hockey.

The announcement was made on the England Hockey website. All three boys are members of Harrogate Hockey Club – Thomas and Alfie play in the U15 age group, with Charlie Willis playing at U16 level.

It is a great achievement to have three boys from one school selected at this level – the standard is extremely high and the England Hockey selectors will be in attendance when they play in a divisional tournament against the south, east and west of England teams during October half term.

As well as playing school and club hockey and North Yorkshire hockey, the boys train two or three times a week and are now stepping up their fitness regimes in preparation for their new team debuts. They have all been playing hockey since they were toddlers.
