Railway struggled to enjoy any possession in the early stages as Worksop went about their business in an efficient manner.
There were no real chances of note until the 16th minute, when the impressive Charlie Dawes cut in from the right, twisted and turned until he was in sight of goal and dispatched the ball across Jonathan Smith in Harrogate Railway’s goal. Worksop taking the lead 0-1.
Five minutes later Worksop were two to the good with Dawes again causing problems down the right.
He got to the byline and squared the cross for Kyle Jordan to tap home unchallenged. 0-2 after 21 minutes.
Railway did get forward with Ryan Sharrocks working hard down the Railway right but he was unable to get behind the Worksop defence.
Railway’s best chance of the half came in the 40th minute. Stephen Bromley got to a Ryan Sharrocks cross and headed the ball fiercely on to the post with the Town defence motionless.
The rebound went straight back to Bromley, who headed it again, but this time it went wide of the goal.
The teams went in at half time with Worksop two goals clear and well worth that lead.
The second half was a much more even contest, with chances limited for both teams.
Worksop were happy to keep possession and Railway found it difficult to create any clear-cut chances.
Stephen Bromley created the best chance of the half, when he met a George Mason cross but headed the ball just wide.
The last goal of the night came late on.
Mitch Husbands ran into the Railway penalty box and was challenged from behind, going down under minimal contact.
The referee deemed that what contact there had been, was enough to point to the penalty spot.
Husbands picked the ball up, placed it on the spot and stroked the ball into the top right corner of Smith’s goal. 88th minute and it was 3-0 to the visitors.
In the dying moments of the game, Jordan Hendrie saw red for a second bookable offence, leaving Railway finish the game with ten men.
Paul Beesley will take his first full training session on Thursday, hoping to bring in some new faces to Station View over the next week or two and get the team to start playing his way.
A lot of work to do for the newly appointed manager.
