Thousands raised for charity with Lower Dales cycle ride

20 September 2016

Charities across Yorkshire are the beneficiaries of an annual pub-to-pub cycle ride.

This year’s annual Lower Dales Bike Ride – which started and concluded At Bedale’s Old Black Swan Inn – saw 50 cyclists follow a 30 mile, 13-pub, route through the heart of North Yorkshire.

Organisations to benefit this year from the £3,000 raised in sponsorship were Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Thirsk’s Herriot Hospice, Harrogate’s St Michael’s Hospice and Ovarian Cancer.

The event also received sponsorship from  Masham brewery T&R Theakston Ltd.

T&R Theakston Ltd Sales Development Manager Barry Gibb, who was one of the cyclists, said:

Once again Theakston’s has been delighted to sponsor this pint-sized Tour de Yorkshire.

I would like to pay tribute to everyone who came along and helped raise such a magnificent sum for charity.

The weather was on our side and the route takes in some truly stunning countryside, as well as some terrific Yorkshire hostelries, that were very accommodating on the day.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Megan Ineson, the manageress of the Old Black Swan, for providing everyone with halves and pints of richly deserved Theakston’s beer and plates of pie and peas at the finish.

This annual ride has always been organised by Chris Wade, landlord of the Milbank Arms at Well, but sadly he had to take a back seat this year due to ill health.

We wish him well and thank all those who stepped in to ensure the ride went ahead, in particular Kris Stephenson.

Later in the year Theakston’s will hold a special night at its Masham visitor centre, the Black Bull in Paradise, when riders and representatives of the charities will be presented with their shares of the donations.
