Harrogate Town 1 Worcester City 0 Att. 304
Harrogate Town warmed up for Tuesday’s clash with Alfreton Town with a hard fought victory over Worcester City.
However,it was the visitors who made the early running and Mark Cook had to pull out a fantastic fifth minute save to keep out Matt Birley’s shot.
Town replied with Wayne Phillips and Graeme Armstrong combining to set up Ciaran Toner whose shot just grazed the crossbar.
Jake Picton then hammered Adam Nowakowski’s header at Dean Coleman in the City goal as Town began to dominate.
It was no surprise, when after twentyfive minutes, Town took the lead ,when Armstrong bravely headed in a Phillips cross at the far post.
A well worked free kick saw Coleman save Phillips’s shot at the near post.
The second half started with Richard Marshall ballooning a free kick high over the City bar,but he soon made amends by creating an excellent chance for Toner who could only shoot straight at Coleman.
Kevin O’Connor gave Worcester some respite with a well struck free kick at Cook, but Harrogate soon resumed their attacks with both Phillips and Martin Foster going close.
A brilliant cross field run culminating in a powerful drive from Phillips almost gave Town a second goal.
Worcester tried hard to catch Town on the break, with their best player Birley almost catching out Cook with a speculative drive which the home keeper did well to tip over the bar.
The final whistle saw Town collect all three points and stretch their unbeaten run to nine.
