In early July six members of our 25 strong Harrogate Grammar School catering team attended the LACA Awards for Excellence at the Hilton Hotel Birmingham. Having reached the shortlist stage for the “Self Delivered/In-House Catering Operation 2016” award, we were proud to get such recognition from the best in the business and thrilled to be announced the winners.
Having won two previous awards under the leadership of executive Chef Dave Carrack; “Best Newcomer 2013” and “Self-Managed Catering Team 2014” both from EDUCatering Excellence group, the team are delighted to have the “hat-trick” and feel inspired to work towards more success in the future.
The judges for this award were looking for a catering team that engaged its students, staff and parents directly, increasing awareness and support of the schools food service. In particular the LACA were looking for a school that went the extra mile raising awareness of the important role food plays in a healthy lifestyle.
Since bringing our catering in house in 2012 we have expanded our operation to 8 outlets within the school including a purpose built Sixth Form G2 Bistro and a mobile catering unit alongside introducing new initiatives each year to continue our growth and success as a business. We actively engage with students through council meetings, surveys and cookery lessons and have regular contact with parents at induction days, parents’ evenings and beyond.
This year has seen a dramatic change in our menus with the removal of some pastry and confectionary items and an emphasis on local produce, balanced meals and a wide range of healthy choices to promote a healthier lifestyle.
We were delighted to win this prestigious award and hope to continue engaging our students, staff and parents to become world class in our field.
