Views sought on tackling obesity in North Yorkshire

5 July 2016

The North Yorkshire Health and Wellbeing Board is seeking views on its new strategy to tackle obesity in North Yorkshire.

The Healthy Weight and Healthy Lives strategy will cover the period 2016 to 2026 and will set out the priorities for reversing the obesity trend in children and adults in North Yorkshire.

An online questionnaire on the North Yorkshire County Council website invites people living and working in North Yorkshire to give their views on its proposals.

County Councillor David Chance, Executive Member for Public Health said:

We are hoping for some valuable feedback, which we will consider carefully before finalising our new Healthy Weight and Healthy Lives Strategy. We are very keen to hear from as many people as possible before the consultation ends on 26 August, so please read our draft strategy and tell us what you think of it. Your views really matter to us.

The priorities of the draft strategy are:

  1. Supporting children’s healthy growth and healthy weight
  2. Promoting healthier food choices
  3. Building physical activity into our daily lives
  4. Providing the right personalised weight management support at the right time
  5. Ensuring people have access to the right information and resources to make healthy choices that support weight loss
  6. Building healthier workplaces that support employees to manage their weight

The consultation on the strategy will run until 26 August and anyone wanting to take part can do so online at www.northyorks.gov.uk/hwhl
Alternative format versions of the questionnaire are available on request from the County Council’s customer service centre on 01609 780780 email customer.services@northyorks.gov.uk
