North Yorkshire County Council is working with the leadership of Moorside Infant School in Ripon to address key areas of concern after the school was placed in special measures.
The County Council is also working closely with the Department for Education in order to support the school to become a sponsored academy, which is the next step for any school receiving such an inspection outcome.
The Ofsted report has stated that although pupils are safe in the school, that they are polite and respectful, take pride in helping others and benefit from a wide range of experience to enrich their learning, the school has not successfully tackled required areas for improvement.
The deputy headteacher is to become acting head of the infant school while the infant school goes through the academy process as the headteacher, announced her retirement prior to the inspection.
County Councillor Arthur Barker, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Schools said:
Our key focus is that the children of Moorside Infant School are provided with good quality education during this transition process.
We will therefore work with all partners – staff, governors, the DfE and the Regional Schools Commissioner – to ensure that the necessary support is in place to address the key issues raised by Ofsted and to ensure quality teaching and learning is more consistently available.
