Harrogate in Bloom have presented awards to the winners of the 2016 children’s art competition.
On Saturday 19 March 2016 at the West Park United Reform Church Cllr Nigel Simms, Mayor of Borough of Harrogate and Nick Smith, Director Harrogate Flower Shows.
The competition was sponsored by Harrogate Flower Shows (North of England Horticultural Society).
The competition was open to all primary schools in Harrogate and 600 entries were received.
The older children were challenged to design Pods Perfect Garden for the Harrogate Spring Flower Show. Younger children were asked to colour-in a Pod. – Pod is a very busy little Pea who loves to garden.
Categories winners were awarded for pre-school/reception, key stage 1, key stage 2.
- Ella Browes, Ashville Pre-Prep School – Key Stage 1 category winner
- Grace Brierly, Oatlands Junior School – Key Stage 2 category winner
- Jessie Thomas, Oatlands Infants School, pre-school/ reception category winner
Category winners were also presented with a family ticket for the 2016 Harrogate Spring Flower Show as well as a mug printed with their winning design and a Pod.
Nick Smith, Director Harrogate Flower Shows paid credit to the all the fantastic work that had been submitted and said it was easy to see benefit of plants, flowers and gardening in people’s lives. Cllr Nigel Simms, Mayor of Borough of Harrogate commented on the fantastic response and gave his personal to the parents in supporting the children.
Entries will be also shown to the Britain in Bloom judges in August.
