Harrogate Grammar School are extremely proud to be approved as a Directly Licensed Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh. This means that the school now hold a license to deliver D of E programmes to young people on their own premises. The aim of Harrogate Grammar School is to expand the opportunities for students to partake in the award and to enjoy the challenges and rewards it brings.

The school has been running the Duke of Edinburgh award for many years now. They currently have forty year 10 students training for their Bronze award and twenty five year 12 and 13 students working towards their Gold award. The Duke of Edinburgh award is a program of activities that encourages young people to become independent, confident and resilient individuals.

Through the D of E students partake in physical activities, learn new skills and work closely in the community undertaking voluntary work.

An important part of the award is the expedition where students walk in groups to complete a two day expedition at Bronze level and a 4 day expedition at Gold level. Through this experience students get to enjoy the great outdoors whilst developing their organisation and team working skills.
