The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre (SROMC) is hosting its second annual Spring Ball on Saturday 14 May 2016 at the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate.
Last year’s ball raised over £17,500 for Harrogate Hospital and Community Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support, with funds being used within the centre. This year’s event will again be raising money for the two charities. In particular, money raised at the ball will be used to fund the provision of Complementary Therapy Treatments which relieve some side effects of treatments and help with certain physical conditions and emotional issues.
Tickets for the evening, sponsored by Lights4Fun and Rabbit Hill Country Store, cost £75 per person, and include welcome drink, dinner, wine and live entertainment from ‘Ticket 415’ followed by a disco to take you into the night. There will also be an auction, silent auction and a raffle. Please join us for a great evening and help to raise valuable funds to ensure the continuation of invaluable services at the centre.
The complementary therapies provided by the centre are funded entirely through voluntary donations and thanks to the money raised at last year’s ball; the service has been increased to offer treatment to four days a week. To keep the service going we need to raise around £50,000 a year. This means that more people can benefit from the service and there are reduced waiting times, enabling people to be treated when they need it rather than when they can be fitted in!
Users of the service have praised the work of Julie Crossman, SROMC Complementary Therapist. One service user commented: ‘The treatments were tailored to side effects and symptoms of treatment and they helped alleviate symptoms for me – in particular pain in my hands and feet and watery eyes.’ And another stated: ‘it helped me to relax and helped get rid of feelings of depression. Generally improved mood and improved wellbeing.’
David Fisher, Community and Events Fundraiser at Harrogate Hospital and Community Charity said:
Thanks to the amazing support of the organisers and those attending the ball, Harrogate Hospital and Community Charity is able to provide funds to pay for specialist equipment, research and patient and family support that would otherwise not be there, making a real difference to patients and their families when they need it most. The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre is a fabulous facility for people in the Harrogate District, and to be able to make it that bit better for people going through treatment really does make a huge difference.

The team at The Old Swan are really excited about welcoming everyone to the Hotel on Saturday 14th May this year.
We’ve been working with the organising team to finalise the menu details and we think that guests are in for a real treat.
