A STUDENT who recently lost her mum to cancer is inviting people to remember their loved ones this Mother’s Day by making an online donation to Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Naomi Barrow, from Wetherby, decided to create a fundraising page, titled ‘Memories about Mums’, as a way of bringing people together to share memories and celebrate their mums’ and grandmothers’ lives.
The 21-year-old is suggesting that people donate the money they would have spent buying their mum a card or gift.
Naomi’s mum Fiona passed away at the age of 53 last October, three years after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Naomi said:
Mother’s Day can be very difficult for those who have lost a loved one, especially when that loved one is their mum. Having discussed this with others, we thought it would be nice to have a place online where we can come and share images and memories of our mums, on and around this day, accompanied by a small donation.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer my mum was treated with Tamoxifen, a drug which was helped to be developed by Yorkshire Cancer Research. She asked for donations from her funeral to go to Yorkshire Cancer Research, so that’s the charity I’ve chosen to fundraise for in her memory.
Ellie Hill, Regional Fundraiser at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said:
Naomi’s idea is a heart-felt reminder of those we have lost and the women who mean the most to us. Donating in memory or on behalf of a loved one is a lovely way to support Yorkshire Cancer Research and will allow the charity to continue to support the people of Yorkshire.
