A team of U11 footballers from Harrogate prep school Belmont Grosvenor have gone down in history after scooping an inter-schools footballing competition trophy.
A team of boys’ from the independent co-educational prep school won the top title in the Richmond House Football Tournament for the first time in the 13 years the school has entered the competition.
Head of Boys PE at ‘outstanding’ Belmont Grosvenor School, Chris Dight, said he was delighted with the boys’ success.
Mr Dight:
We have been entering this competition for the past 13 years, and have made the semi finals before, and we’ve also made the finals, but we have never won the title.
The boys played brilliantly and I’m overjoyed that they have created a litte piece of history for Belmont Grosvenor School.
A team of seven boys from Years 5 and 6 at the school, based at Swarcliffe Hall, Birstwith, beat off competition from seven teams from across West and North Yorkshire to win the trophy at the six-a-side tournament held at the Leeds school Richmond House.
In the final, the U11 Belmont Grosvenor team beat the home side in an exciting penalty shoot-out, with pupil Perry Palmer scoring the winning penalty allowing Belmont Grosvenor to take the title.
