Residents and staff at Bupa’s Southlands Nursing and Residential home on Ripon Road made the most of the sunshine on Friday 7 August 2015 to celebrate the opening of the home’s new garden.
The garden has been transformed to create a more functional and enjoyable space for residents and their families and now benefits from new walkways that make the whole of the garden accessible, new seating, lighting, furniture and an Avery. A vegetable patch has also been created so residents and their families and friends can grow and pick their own vegetables while the chef can make use of freshly grown vegetables in the home’s daily menus.
The garden was officially opened by Pam Grant, president of Harrogate in Bloom, at a celebratory garden party attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate, Councillor Nigel Simms and Mrs Lynn Simms, together with residents’ friends and families and members of the local community.
Susan Sowden, home manager at Southlands, said: Everyone at Southlands would like to thank Pam for opening our new garden and the Mayor and Mayoress and the local community for coming along to support us.
The finished garden is fantastic and residents have already been enjoying the space. The garden also plays an important part in the home’s activities programme and our residents get a lot of pleasure from the beautiful flowers and visiting wildlife.
