A Saint Michael’s hospice in Harrogate is offering people the opportunity to pay tribute to someone special this summer at its unique Say it With Sunflowers event.
The hospice is inviting the community to celebrate the life of a loved one by dedicating a personalised sunflower plaque as part of a sea of sunflowers in the Hospice’s Hornbeam Park grounds.
Donations made for the special plaques will fund vital care and support for local people living with terminal illness and bereavement.
Participants will be invited to a family-friendly open garden event on Sunday July 19 from 10am, where people can view their special sunflower, stroll round the beautiful grounds and share refreshments with staff and volunteers in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The plaques will remain in the gardens until the end of summer when they can be returned.
Dorothy Hope, who dedicated her sunflower to her mother, Margaret Woodward, who died in the Hospice 10 years ago said:
I came to last year’s Say It with Sunflowers and it was a really lovely event.
My mum loved sunflowers so when I saw this event I knew it was just right for us. It was a gentle, serene chance to remember her and have some quiet time in a reflective environment.
I can’t put into words the support my mum, my family and I received from Saint Michael’s during her last few days. I will be eternally grateful.
Saint Michael’s services support more than 2,000 people in the Harrogate district each year, both at the charity’s well-known hospice, at home and in hospital.
Saint Michael’s spends £5million each year providing these specialist services, all aimed at improving the lives of people living with a terminal illness or bereavement. Services are completely free of charge to patients and their families.
