The Yorkshire Antiques & Art Fair on 23 and 24 May at the Yorkshire Event Centre on Saturday and Sunday is staged twice a year and the next event will be the 12th at this venue.
One of the 28 new customers at this event of nearly 300 stands are Erna Hiscock and John Shepherd from Kent who are bringing a Yorkshire Double-Handled Eshaldwell Brewery Pearlware Pottery Mug dated 1829, probably made by Swillington Bridge Pottery, near Leeds.
On one side the verse reads “Eshaldwell brewery is known very well/ for brewing good ale none ale can it excel/ py off your old score and order again/ for I’m sure of the ale you cannot complain, 1829″. It is likely that Bentley Eshaldwell Brewery in Aberford Road, Woodlesford, founded 1828, commissioned these vessels for advertising purposes and promoting the Brewery’s ales. The brewery was absorbed by Whitbread in 1968 and was subsequently closed in 1972.
Another new customer ‘Not Wanted on Voyage’ from Northamptonshire will boost the numbers of decorative dealers exhibiting and will adding their mid-Century modern flair with decorative and unusual furniture, accessories and pictures.
The Fair attracts keen collectors and buyers from all over the country for the chance to see and buy from a unique range of antiques and vintage dealers who stand this event which is the premier large antiques and art fair in the North of England.
Helen Bowman who runs Bowman Antiques Fairs with her family said: The queue for entry at 10am on Saturday is always enormous and the buzz of the event is fantastic. Most buyers stay all day, there is so much to discover and admire and the on-site café at the Yorkshire Event Centre, on the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate is excellent.
