Fodder has won a prestigious award in British Sausage Week’s celebration of the Great British Banger.
The local food shop and café, based at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate took the honours in the traditional category with the Plain Pork sausage.
Sam Hurren, who started with Fodder 5 years ago as an apprentice and is now a key part of the butchery team was awarded the prize from British Sausage Week’s celebrity ambassador Phil Vickery, former England Rugby Captain and Celebrity Masterchef 2011 winner, at a cook off event at The Cross Keys in Leeds.
Phil said: The standard of entries in this region was incredibly high. The Plain Pork sausage was rammed with taste. It looked beautiful and as soon as I had my first bite I knew I would love it. All the flavours came through and the seasoning was perfect so it didn’t overpower the pork at all. A great sausage – I had a whole one to myself!
Over 200 butchers entered nearly 500 sausages into the competition and winning butcher, Sam Hurren said: We make all our sausages in our butchery from local free range pork to our own recipes and we are all over the moon to win this major award.
When it comes to sausages, Fodder has a wide range of flavours on offer and the spinach and fennel sausage is used in the award winning Saucy Sausage Casserole which won a star at the recent Great Taste Awards.
British Sausage Week has just celebrated its 17th year and the aim is to raise awareness of the variety, quality and tastiness of British sausages.
