Harrogate Railway Ladies were away at top of the table Ossett Town (26 October 2014) and came away as 2-5 winners, Railway didn’t start the best and for the first 10 minutes they struggled to get out of their own half, however after surviving the initial Ossett onslaught Railway finally got close to scoring when player of the match Rachel Dorkings put in a cross from the right for Emma Elliote to strike against the cross bar this set the game alight and Ossett replied with some good shots on Rails goal.
After 23 minutes Railway had a counter break which put through Nicola Hadley and from the left side her shot was pushed around the upright for a corner, this started a strong spell for Railway and 3 minutes later another corner was given and it was Skipper Ali Purvis who delivered the ball which the Ossett keeper managed to punch the ball into her own goal, 0-1.
On the 32nd minute Rachel Dorkings again puts Emma Elliote through on goal and this time she dispatched a clinical finish to make it 0-2, Railway were on a roll and on the 40th minute Emma was unlucky to be beaten by the bar again, half time 0-2.
From the restart Ossett were determined to pull back an early goal breaking through the middle twice in 5 minutes only to be stopped by full backs, Cat Purvis and Jenny Hudleston this in turn opened up gaps in the midfield and as such railway capitalised and on the 53rd minute Chloe Elphick smashed in rails third from 19 yards out, 0-3.
Unfortunately for Chloe her great moment was surpassed when 3 minutes later, from 6 yards out with an open goal she spooned a sitter over the bar, which was welcomed with laughter from the rest of the squad. Railway had not taken their foot of the gas and on the 63rd minute Chloe won a high ball in the midfield, she passed out wide to Nicola who then beat three players put in a great cross and found the head of Emma to put the ball into the net, 0-4. Railway was cruising and felt the game was done; this was when Ossett saw a chance and again breaking through the middle their forward managed to chip the Railway keeper, 1-4.
Railway, straight from the restart pushed forward, Louise Donnelly on the left, squared the ball back into the feet of Nicola to allow her to smash in the 5th goal for Railway 2 minutes later, 1-5.
Ossett were not down, even now with 7 minutes to play they kept coming at Rails goal and won 3 corners but it was not until the last minute when Ossett struck a fine shot from 12 yards out to bag their second, 2-5.
Another great team performance by the Railway Ladies and 3 more points on the table, next Sunday Railway are at home in the league cup against Gledhowe Ladies KO 1-30pm.
