The key to health, wealth and happiness

9 September 2014

Salon North explores the secrets to life itself as it launches its first ever series: Health, Wealth and Happiness.

Salon – London’s most talked about night out – is brought north by Harrogate International Festivals to enable Yorkshire audiences to take a lateral look at subjects from an art, science and psychological perspective.

The revolutionary movement for the heart and mind is the brainchild of cultural commentator Helen Bagnall. Helen said: This series of three dovetailing events is a first for Salon North, and it will offer audiences a unique chance to go explore at a deeper level just what health, wealth and happiness means to them, guided by the best British minds at work today in the UK.

The format consists of an evening of three experts, each given 30 minutes to engage the audience with their subject. All events take place at 7.30pm at the Masonic Hall, Harrogate.

‘Health’ is on Thursday 25 September 2014. The LSE’s Dr Adam Kurashi will look at the way social behaviour and even our immune systems play in to the hands of epidemics. Leading sound expert, Otto Haddad, will help you experience the healing power of sound therapy through the creation of a Salon North sound bath. And the UK’s leading food futurologist Dr Morgaine Gaye will explain how and what we eat is not quite as easy as informed personal choice, and will draw us a picture of a whole new definition of the future of eating for health.

‘Wealth’ is the topic for 27 November 2014. Author, economist and advisor to Vince Cable, Vicky Pryce, author of Greekonomics and Prisonomics offers a well-rounded definition of wealth and why it’s so important on the world stage. Margaret Heffernan, known for her high concept ideas, draws on her bestseller A Bigger Prize to show that it’s collaboration, not competition that paves the way to much wealthier lives. And as more of us need to work into our dotage neuroscientist Dr Sandrine Thuret, who heads leading research in to neurogenesis (the creation of new brain cells) at UCL, reveals how food can keep cognitive function working for longest.

As we struggle with New Year resolutions and the winter blues, ‘Happiness’ is the focus on 29 January, 2015.
