Hannah, 13, who lives in Leeds has been a member of Leeds Athletic Netball team for the past three years and also plays netball for Gateways. Leeds Athletic was one of 2,000 clubs who were entered in the competition, so even to get to the finals was a tremendous achievement.

Hannah said: To get into the National Finals you have to first win the West Yorkshire league and then the regional league.

We were representing the whole of Yorkshire and we played four matches on Saturday – we lost the first one and then won the next three – and we beat the favourites to win.

On the Sunday, the team played a further three matches and eventually placed sixth out of 18 teams.

We were really pleased with the result.

It was very exciting and we had lots of celebrations afterwards.

Gateways School Headmistress Dr Tracy Johnson said: We are all very proud of Hannah’s achievement with her team in the National Netball Finals and we wish her continued success in a sport she obviously loves.
