North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is celebrating success yet again, having won another prestigious RoSPA award for the eighth year running.
This year, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have been awarded winner of the Emergency Services Sector major awards, building on the previous three commended, and one highly commended major awards.
The Winner of the Emergency Services Sector award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) was presented during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on 14 May 2014.
As the UK’s family safety charity, RoSPA’s mission to save lives and reduce injuries covers all ages and stages of life. In support of this mission, the RoSPA Awards, which date back 58 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work. Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
David Rawlins, Awards Manager for RoSPA, said: The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.
The majority of RoSPA’s awards are non-competitive, marking achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Organisations maintaining high standards can win gold medals, president’s awards and orders of distinction.
Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Nigel Hutchinson from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: This is a major achievement for the service and is a clear indication that we take the health and Safety of our workforce and the communities we serve very seriously.
To have achieved 1st place within the emergency service sector in the whole country makes me very proud and it is due to the dedication and professionalism of everyone in North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service that has enabled this marvellous accolade to be won.
Group Manager Carl Boasman from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: I am extremely proud of the Occupational Health and Safety team for achieving the top award in the country. We strive to achieve the highest professional standards and this award is credit to all our staff in maintaining a consistent health, safety and welfare focus across the Service.
