Mayor of Harrogate hosts Friends of Harrogate meeting

15 May 2014

Cllr Michael Newby, Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate hosted a meeting of the Friends of Harrogate in the Council Chamber recently. The Mayor talked to the Group about one of the most important dates in Harrogate’s history – the year 1884. It was in that year that the town received its Charter of Incorporation, which was granted by Queen Victoria. Her great great granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth ll, granted the current charter to our current Borough Council.

The Mayor spoke about the Civic regalia. After the talk the Mayor entertained the Friends to tea in the Mayor’s Parlour. John Fox proposed the vote of thanks to the Mayor.

The Friends of Harrogate have two forthcoming events. On Thursday 29 May 2014 the Mayor will be the speaker at a Dinner at the Crown Hotel to talk about his year as Mayor.

In July the Friends will meet in St Peter’s Church for their Annual General Meeting, followed by Rev Tony Shepherd giving a guilded tour of the new church facilities and a talk about the work carried out at St Peters Church.

Afternoon Tea will be provided.
