Ukip County Councillor David Simister has been chosen by the party’s Harrogate & Knaresborough branch as its Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in the May 2015 general election.
The Harrogate born and bred councillor – who owns and runs a successful public relations firm in the town – was one of four nominees to who stood at a recent “Hustings” meeting for the position.
Harrogate and Knaresborough Ukip chairman John Hanson said: Four very able candidates put themselves forward for selection, and David was the clear winner.
He is an elected Ukip member of North Yorkshire County Council and has helped raise the party’s profile, both local and regionally, considerably.
Another advantage is that David is Harrogate born and bred. He was schooled in the town, grew up in the town and knows the District inside out.
He is very well known and has proved to be a very effective and popular district councillor and county councillor.
With David as our candidate I believe we have a real chance of seeing the voters of Harrogate & Knaresborough elect a Ukip Member of Parliament.
County Coun Simister said: I’m honoured to have been chosen by local party members to be their Parliamentary spokesman for the Harrogate & Knaresborough Constituency.
Ukip has made huge grounds in the last few years, and I strongly believe we can win Harrogate & Knaresborough.
It will take a lot of hard work, but I’m not afraid of that. I also have a great team behind me and the support of a large percentage of voters.
He added: “In last year’s North Yorkshire County Council elections we came from nowhere to win one seat and come second in the majority of others.
The electorate feel they are being ignored by the three main parties. They see Ukip as a real alternative, one that stands up for British values, one that is looking to save the tax payer money, one that will give them a say on our future in the EU, and one that rewards hard work.
