A group of primary schools is joining forces to offer the first school-based primary teacher training course in North Yorkshire.
Six schools in the Harrogate and Hambleton districts have formed a partnership to set up a school centred initial teacher training scheme (SCITT) which will offer 20 places a year to graduates who want to be teachers.
The North Yorkshire campus – NY Inspire – has been established as a branch of the High Force scheme in County Durham.
South Otterington Church of England Primary; Meadowside Community Primary; St Johns Church of England Primary; Knayton Church of England Primary; Boroughbridge Community Primary; Holy Trinity Juniors, Ripon and Ainderby Steeple Church of England Primary, Northallerton, will work together to train teachers. A conference and training centre for students will be based at Holy Trinity Juniors in Ripon. All students on the course will also undertake special school teaching practice at The Dales School, Morton-on-Swale.
Kate Williamson, headteacher of South Otterington, has been a member of the High force scheme since she worked previously at Brompton-on-Swale. She believes it is an effective way of developing an excellent workforce through partnership in an area with many small rural schools.
Kate said: We want to bring on outstanding teachers and to train the teachers of the future in our schools, as members of our teams and sharing good practice. We are looking for graduates to join us who will be caring, hard-working and reflective trainees.
County Councillor Arthur Barker, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Schools has welcomed this initiative.
County Councillor Barker said: We want all schools to develop effective partnerships, and share knowledge and good practice so that all of the county’s children have access to high quality teaching and learning. Sharing expertise to offer effective teacher training is an excellent way of developing an outstanding and committed workforce for North Yorkshire’s schools.

I have been looking for post graduate courses in teaching and saw your web site. I live in Harrogate with my two children and I am keenly interested in teaching training. I have a Honours Degree, advanced NVQ (distinction) in health and social care plus various other qualifications.
