Six applicants for every one position on offer at new multi-million pound shop.
John Lewis has announced an overwhelming response to the recruitment drive for its York department store, with over 1,700 applications received for 300 jobs.
Equivalent to six applicants for every one position available, interest was extremely high to work for John Lewis’ 41st shop, which is due to open in the spring of this year.
Located on the Vangarde Shopping Park development, John Lewis is aiming to make it their most sustainable shop yet. It will offer customers an edited collection of products across fashion, home and electronics in an inspiring and contemporary setting.
Commenting on the recruitment process, Rebekah Hawley, personnel growth manager at John Lewis, said: It is essential that we employ a strong team of Partners and we’ve been extremely impressed with the calibre of candidates who have applied for positions at our shop in York. Those who are successful will benefit from John Lewis’ unique Partnership structure, meaning they will all be co-owners of the business and receive a host of benefits.
Robert Garnish, branch manager at John Lewis York, added: It’s fantastic to be offering a significant number of new jobs to people in the York area. We’re looking for a diverse selection of Partners who all understand the importance of delivering outstanding customer service and will bring a positive can-do attitude and enthusiasm to the customers as they walk through the doors. Having been a Partner with the John Lewis Partnership for over 13 years myself, I have experienced first hand the high levels of job satisfaction that a career in retail can offer and I’m very much looking to working with my new team in the run up to opening day.
