New Honorary Aldermen for North Yorkshire

15 November 2013

Four new honorary aldermen have been elected in recognition of their ‘eminent service’ to North Yorkshire.

Former divisional members Jane Kenyon (Whitby/Mayfield cum Mulgrave), Caroline Seymour (Stokesley), John Marshall (Harrogate Central) and Michael Knaggs (Malton) were elected to the honorary roles at a special meeting of the county council this week. All had served at least twenty years on either the county council or one of its predecessor authorities.

Both Ms Kenyon, a Conservative, and Ms Seymour, a Lilberal Democrat, served on the county council from 1989 to 2013.

Mr Marshall, a Liberal Democrat, served on the authority from 1973 to 1977, and again from 1981 to 2013. Mr Knaggs, a Conservative, served from 1985 to 1989, and from 1997 to 2013.

The four new honorary aldermen received their certificates of office from the chairman of the county council, Councillor Bernard Bateman.
