North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted by the automatic fire detection system to a fire at the fire station on Stonebridgegate, Ripon at 00:11 on the 5Nov 2013 . The control room requested that the Ripon based crews, along with a crew from Boroughbridge attend.
When crews arrived at the fire station they found one of the fire engines on fire in the appliance bay. They used hose reels and a small jet to extinguish the fire.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
The fire caused significant fire damage to one fire engine, and a replacement from our fleet of spares has been requested.
The fire also caused some damage to the fire station, but our robust contingency arrangements mean that operational response will not be affected, and crews will be attending other incidents as normal.
At this time they do not know what caused the fire
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
This incident highlights that fire can happen at any time to anyone.
The automatic fire detection system gave us early warning of this fire and we would like to take this opportunity to remind people to ensure they have smoke alarms fitted in their homes as they can provide those precious few minutes of warning.
