Harrogate Grammar School Executive Head Chef, Dave Carrack received a prestigious award at a glittering national awards ceremony in London. Dave was judged to be the Newcomer of the Year in the school catering industry, Educating Excellence, which feeds children at over 24,000 schools up and down the country. The award recognises the tremendous achievements by Dave and his catering team.
Dave is a young chef who joined Harrogate Grammar School in August 2012 and has led a team of 20 caterers through the transition from being a Local Authority caterer to being a cohesive and highly respected in-house catering team. With no previous experience in schools, Dave has worked miracles in the kitchen. He is loved by staff and students and Harrogate Grammar School has witnessed his team blossom under his leadership and training.
Dave’s passion and enthusiasm is driving his objective for catering at Harrogate Grammar School to be “the best in the country”.
Dave also mentors students wherever possible; in cup-cake making and has judged the Young Masterchef competition.
He has introduced countless improvements including a re-launched menu; tremendous hospitality catering; an online shop selling sandwiches; a new “Lunchbox” outlet to cope with the additional demand from students; takeaways for staff and biometric vending machines. Dave has opened a brand new bistro facility for Sixth Formers and has recently secured governor approval to expand and refurbish the kitchen which underlines the faith the school is placing in him.
Dave has most impressively achieved all this in his first year.
