A popular coffee morning at a town centre church has raised nearly £1,000 to support older and vulnerable people in the Harrogate area.
The Stray View Coffee Shop team at West Park United Reformed Church has handed over a cheque for £964 to the Harrogate Easier Living Project which provides much needed services for elderly, disabled and vulnerable people living independently.
The money was raised over a three month period at the regular Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday coffee mornings held at the church. The committee had heard about the charity through congregation member Judith Leach who has benefited from the services offered by HELP.
Rev John Campbell, minister at West Park URC, said:
Members and friends of West Park Church are delighted to know that the fundraising for HELP will help our local community. It shows the teaching of Jesus Christ is being put into action through some thoroughly enjoyable ways.
Harrogate Easier Living Project’s three services – Help at Home, Carers’ Time Off and Opening Doors – offer practical help around the home, carer relief and accompanied outings, all supported by a team of volunteers.
Jane Cozens, Help at Home service coordinator, said:
This kind of money will make a real difference to our charity. We will be using West Park’s donation to purchase new gardening tools and decorating equipment for the Help at Home team to ensure they can work more efficiently and ultimately reach out to more people.
We’d like to extend a massive thank you to everyone involved at West Park and wish them all the best in their future fundraising efforts.
The Harrogate Easier Living Project (HELP) was launched in 2011, bringing together three existing services which had each been running for 20 years. HELP is supported by an army of volunteers and is funded in part by the Big Lottery Fund.
