North Yorkshire’s libraries are taking part in this year’s Family Learning Festival with a whole range of activities so that families can enjoy together.
The Family Learning Festival is supported nationally by the Campaign for Learning and is intended to give families the opportunity to help each other with their learning, increasing confidence and improving skills.
The theme is ‘Fantastic Journeys’ and between October 19th and November 3rd North Yorkshire’s libraries are hosting many events for families to enjoy together.
Research shows that a child’s family can have a massively positive influence on their learning by getting involved and taking an active interest in their studies.
As part of the learning festival libraries will be providing a host of activities as well as information and advice about the learning opportunities available in local areas. They will also be working with learning providers to offer taster sessions of some of the activities and courses on offer.
County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Libraries and Community Services said:
Libraries are all about learning so it’s great to see them throwing their weight behind this year’s national Family Learning Festival. They have organised a wide range of events and activities and have teamed up with partners to encourage families to try new things together.
Libraries are the informal re-entry point to learning for so many people so whether its support with literacy and numeracy, learning a new skill to help get a new job, supporting family learning or finding ideas for hobbies and filling spare time, the library is the first port of call.
