A goal three minutes from time was enough to end Town’s interest in this seasons F A Cup.
Town were first out of the blocks and won an early corner when Michael Woods’ shot from Cleveland Taylor’s cross was turned behind.Craig Nelthorpe’s deep corner found Leigh Franks, but his header flashed across the goal.
This heralded a spell of Town pressure in which Bay keeper,Chris Sanna, twice saved from Ashley Worsfold and home skipper,Rob Hopley, cleared off the line.
Colwyn were reduced to long hopeful balls upfield, and from one Hopley cut in from the left, but shot straight at Craig MacGillivray.
Town were dominating play, and an excellent move between Woods and Liam Hardy, ended with Adam Bolder shooting well over.
The Seagulls, prompted by Danny Taylor, began to come into the game and Hopley broke through the Town defence but dragged his shot well wide.
Town ended the half in a blaze of action:Worsfold’s mazy run was ended with a goal line clearance, Anton Brown’s shot on the turn was scrambled clear and Worsfold headed over just before the whistle.
The opening stages of the second half saw Nelthorpe firing over from 25 yards, while at the other end, Darkwah’s snap shot produced a diving save from MacGillivray.
In a tremendous period of Town pressure,Brown’s glancing header was just wide and Craig Nelthorpe, shot straight at Sanna, after being put clean through by Dave Merris.
Hardy’s looping header from Taylor’s cross rebounded off the post and Danny Meadowcroft collided with Worsfold as Town tried to force the ball over the line. Both players were able to resume after a lengthy spell of treatment.
Chris Hall and Adam Nowakowski replaced Worsfold and Woods as Town strove for a winner.
However, with only four minutes left,Bay gave Town a warning when Darkwah rattled the bar with the visiting defence at full stretch.
Unfortunately, within seconds Darkwah broke down the left, rounded Taylor and squared to the unmarked Hopley who calmly sidefooted home from close range.
Town threw everything at the Seagulls in a desperate attempt to salvage something from the game.
Veteran sub, Frank Sinclair, headed away Taylor’s piledriver and Sanna tipped over the bar.
But Colwyn survived four minutes of added time to progress into the next round of the F A Cup.
