Now that the New Welcome Centre at St Andrew’s Church in Starbeck is open, the drive is on to use it for the benefit of the people of Starbeck.
On Saturday 14th September the centre will be open from 1000 – 1200 for people to see what is available for them in the community.
Already confirmed are Scouts and Cubs, Starbeck Library, Tennis Swimming and Bowls Clubs, The Food Bank and Horizon Life Training.
Others may be joining them. Andrew Jones, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, Starbeck Councillors and The Bishop will be around sometime during the morning to chat to. There will also be a café serving teas coffee and cakes and a second hand book and DVD stall available.
Project manager Mike Langford said:
Although we have already hosted The Starbeck in Bloom competition, numerous weddings and meetings we want our first community function in the New Welcome Centre to display everything that is good about our community – this is an ideal opportunity.
The Rev Francis Wainaina endorsed the opportunity by adding:
I have a passion to be with the community I live in. I really hope the people of Starbeck will visit us in droves on Saturday morning to see what Starbeck is all about.
The official opening will be at 1230 and after that the church is hosting an official lunch for 30 people in the church itself using the new catering facilities to thank the architect, local people, the builder and the church building team for what is now an exciting new Venue on Starbeck High St.
