Paul Kennedy has (Monday 2 September 2013) taken up his new role as Assistant Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police.
Mr Kennedy arrives from Cumbria Constabulary having been appointed by Chief Constable Dave Jones on 12 July.
He has responsibility for the operational performance of North Yorkshire Police. This covers community policing, criminal investigation and operations, which includes roads policing and other specialist units such as firearms support.
He will also work alongside policing colleagues in the Yorkshire and the Humber region to maximise collaboration opportunities, as well as local authority and other community partners to help improve the quality of life in our neighbourhoods.

I’m really looking forward to working alongside Chief Constable Dave Jones, Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick and other senior leaders, as I know we share the same drive and determination to keep North Yorkshire as the safest and lowest crime area in England.

Biography
Paul Kennedy, 48, originates from Keighley in West Yorkshire and joined the police in 1988.
Prior to that he graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Portsmouth and worked in the National Health Service as a haematologist.
He served with West Yorkshire Police and South Wales Police in both uniform and detective roles. Between 2005 and 2008 he was based in Bradford and was a senior investigating officer in the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
As well as leading murder investigations, Mr Kennedy developed policy in response to mass disaster and child abduction.
He was appointed as Area Commander for South Cumbria in April 2008. In 2010 he was temporarily seconded for eight months to work with her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and led a value for money inspection of criminal justice reforms in London.
Mr Kennedy was the Chief Superintendent in charge of Organisational Support at Cumbria Constabulary before his promotion to North Yorkshire Police.
