A Harrogate family, whose son died as a result of epilepsy, organised a charity fundraiser to mark what would have been his 18th birthday. The event raised vital funds for Leeds-based charity Epilepsy Action.
The charity provides advice and support to the 600,000 people with epilepsy in the UK.
Georgiana and David Snow, along with their children Philip, Edward and Alison, organised the event last September in memory of their son and brother Thomas. Thomas sadly died just after his 17th birthday from an epileptic seizure.
The evening involved a memorial balloon release of 1,000 red balloons, family entertainment and a hog roast supper and raised £6,600 for Epilepsy Action.
The Snow family presented a cheque to Epilepsy Action’s fundraising events manager, Philippa Cartwright, at their farm on Saturday.
Georgiana said:
A fantastic time was had by everyone who attended the fundraiser and we are so pleased with the massive sum that has been raised for Epilepsy Action.
The money is being donated so that more help can be given to other families that may have lost loved ones and suffered like we did.
We as a family would like to say thank you to everyone who was involved in helping us to care for our very loving Thomas during his short but colourful life. Thanks also to everyone who made this fundraising evening possible.
So many businesses gave so generously and a dedicated team of helpers assisted us in blowing up 1,000 red balloons.
