The North Yorkshire Police have announced a new recruitment campaign for Special Constables. The new recruits will work as volunteers throughout communities across North Yorkshire.
Superintendent Richard Anderson holds the portfolio for the Special Constabulary on behalf of North Yorkshire Police.
Superintendent Anderson said:
Special Constables have the same powers as their regular colleagues and carry out a full range of operational front line duties.
Specials come from a wide variety of backgrounds, which means that they bring with them a whole host of skills and abilities which complement those of their regular colleagues.
Having worked alongside Specials, I know from personal experience how much their contribution is valued by their fellow officers.
If you are thinking about joining this valued service, please come along to one of the planned recruitment events, where you can talk to Specials who are already serving with North Yorkshire Police.
The new recruitment campaign, opening on 29 July in York and Scarborough, is the latest opportunity for people to explore how they could make a real difference in their community as a volunteer Special Constable.
A number of recruitment evening road shows are planned in different areas where people keen to discover more about this hugely rewarding role can ask questions and meet Special Constables.
Speaking about the campaign, Police and Crime Commissioner, Julia Muligan said:
Becoming a Special Constable for North Yorkshire Police is one of the most rewarding and exciting voluntary roles possible.
It is one of the very best ways to give something back to your community through helping protect and keep people safe, without joining the service on a full time basis.
