Ellie Barnes, part of the Site and Facilities staff at Harrogate Grammar School, has been awarded Steinal UK 1st Year Electrical Apprentice of the Year award at York College. This award recognises Ellie’s excellent progress as a trainee electrician since she made the career change from Nursing. The College principal spoke about her hard work and determination to succeed, which made her an excellent role model in the College.
Ellie joined Harrogate Grammar School last year on a temporary contract to enable her to complete her studies and become a qualified electrician. She has proved an invaluable addition to the site team, particularly with the various capital projects under way at the school.
Richard Sheriff, Headteacher at Harrogate Grammar School said:
Ellie is a wonderful role model to both boys and girls, she is a superb learner and a great professional. Having spoken to a number of contractors and other trades people working on-site with Ellie, they have all praised her skill and intelligence together with her highly developed people skills that let allow her to thrive in, what has been traditionally, a very male dominated area of employment.
